Reflections

I've been thinking a lot about our first two weeks making and selling cupcakes at PapaBoos. It's been fun, crazy, and exhausting! We are having a great time not only making and decorating cupcakes, but also talking to all of YOU who come in to buy and eat our cupcakes. It is so satisfying to see someone thoroughly enjoy something we made.

Lots of things happen in the kitchen that no customer ever sees (don't worry, your cupcakes are totally safe)! If someone were to spy on us, though, they might see us laughing a whole lot, listening to some crazy music, dancing (badly), singing (badly), doing jumping jacks and push-ups, taste-testing our products, washing many dishes, and causing powdered sugar explosions with the stand mixer.

I actually like my sister, and love seeing her every day (it's true). I'm loving cupcake-making and want to thank everyone who has come by to get some cupcakes. Keep coming back for more!

Sunday Sell Out and Thanks

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who came by on Sunday and got cupcakes - we had a sell out! I apologize if someone wanted one, but didn't get one. Demand was greater than expected. We'll make more for next week!

Thanks so much everyone!

Katie and the Bee

Katie's been baking again and this time she wanted to make a Bee for her Dad's birthday. She did a great job. Baked and decorated the cake on her own. Very cute!

Special Order Football Cake

We had a lady contact us about doing a special order quarter sheet cake for her son's birthday. She wanted it to look like a football field. Liz said she had done one before and we could do that.

I ordered some football decor for the cake and basically handed it all off to Liz because it was my hubby's birthday the day we needed to work on it. Like the wonderful sister she is, Liz said she'd take care of it.

This is the cake she came up with. I can't tell you how knock out cute this cake is in person! I knew she was talented, but I was totally blown away when I saw it. She did a top notch job and I'm so proud of her (and the cake)!

See all those lines and little numbers on the cake?
She free-handed those on there.
Yeah, that's what I said too!

Thoughts for Wednesday

Well it's been a busy start to the week and I can't believe it's Wednesday already!

We haven't sold out of cupcakes since Friday, so we're having trouble figuring out how many cupcakes to make each day. It's hard to find that happy medium where everyone that wants a cupcake gets one, but you don't have too many left over.

We've got some special orders this week that are keeping us busy also, so that's good.

Display case for Wednesday

Mocha and Chocolate
(Mocha is one of our best sellers)

Lemon Supreme and Butter Pecan

Vanilla and Blueberry Pie

Blueberry Pie is a brand new flavor combination for us. We've never done this one before, so somebody try one and report back how they liked it and if we should make it a regular option.

Vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and chocolate dipped strawberries.
Birthday Cake

Chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream.
Birthday cake for same party as above cake.

Display case from Tuesday

Chocolate (we tried regular chocolate and dark chocolate buttercream) and Fluffernutter

Strawberry Lemonade and Italian Cream
(Strawberry Lemonade is another popular flavor)

Vanilla and Butterscotch

First Week

After doing a little calculating, I discovered we made 641 cupcakes our first week and sold about 600 of those. We had a few left over on a couple of days and my niece Abby had to sample a few, but most went in the case to sell.

Thanks to everyone that came to see us and bought cupcakes! We really appreciate it!

Hope we see you again this week!

Tuesday's Flavors

Here is the menu for Tuesday:

Chocolate
Vanilla
Italian Cream
Fluffernutter
Strawberry Lemonade

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Monday's Comments

Well our first week is behind us and here we are back to Monday's Flavors.

We threw in a few surprises - like the Dirty Snowball Cupcake! It's a Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Buttercream and shredded coconut.

We made about 80 today and half were gone when I left at 3:30. Let's hope it is a sell out night!

Chocolate and Chocolate Peanut Butter

Carrot, Dirty Snowball and Coconut Joy (this one sold out first - it's sooooo good!)

Monday's Flavors

The menu for each week is the same, but here you go for Monday:

Chocolate
Vanilla
Carrot with Cream Cheese
Chocolate Peanut Butter
Coconut Joy

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Sunday's Comments

Well today we only made 92 cupcakes.
After our record high of 132 yesterday and not selling 22 of them, we decided to back off a little on today's numbers. It will be some trial and error until we figure out the amounts we need for different days of the week.
There were 22 left at 5:30 today, and I hope I don't find any in the morning!

Full case first thing this morning

Old Fashioned Favorite (yellow cake with chocolate frosting) and Chocolate

Vanilla, Strawberry Shortcake, The Elvis, & Banana with Caramel

Hostess with the Mostess, Vanilla and Strawberry Shortcake.

We didn't sell out of the Hostess immediately and that really surprised me. I expected those to go first.

Saturday's Comments

Today was another busy day.
We made 132 cupcakes and filled that case up!
By 5:30 pm there were only about 50 left - let's hope the dinner crowd at PapaBoos Pizza finished them off.

The full cupcake counter

Neapolitan, Chocolate & Chocolate Raspberry

Big Orange Sherbet and Rocky Road

Vanilla and Big Orange Sherbet

We're thinking of using the color scheme on the Vanilla cupcakes as our "signature" color for them. What do you think? Like? Don't like?

Saturday's Flavors

Here is the menu for Saturday:

Chocolate
Vanilla
Neapolitan
Big Orange Sherbet
Rocky Road

We plan on having a very full cupcake case, so we hope to see you tomorrow!

Friday's Comments

Today was a busy, busy day.
After selling out before the dinner crowd arrived at the pizza place last night, we decided we should ramp up production for today. We made 125 cupcakes and hoped that would be enough to meet demand.
As of 4:30, there were 30 cupcakes left.

Within 5 short days we have doubled production from where we started on Monday. We had no idea what to expect in terms of demand and we are thrilled with the response from people so far.

Thank you to everyone who has come by to see us and try a cupcake!!

Here is the case all loaded up and ready for opening time.

Key Lime Pie and Chocolate

Banana Split, Banana with Cream Cheese, The Elvis and Vanilla decorated in Green and White

Chocolate Chip, Banana Split, Banana with Cream Cheese and The Elvis

And I had to share this picture - this is what happens when Liz makes 4 huge batches of frosting!

Here is the cupcake menu for Friday:

Chocolate

Key Lime Pie

The Elvis (banana cake with peanut butter frosting)

Thursday

Today we made 82 cupcakes and there were only 3 left at 5:15. I hope the dinner crowd didn't fight over them. The Red Velvet and Strawberry Shortcake went very fast.
We tried to sell cups of leftover frosting (frosting shots), but I don't think we had any takers on those.

Mint Cookies n Cream and Chocolate

PB & J (with grape or strawberry jelly) and Mint Cookies n Cream

Vanilla, Strawberry Shortcake and Not So Red Velvet

Wednesday at the cupcake counter

I actually remembered to take my camera with me this morning so I could document what the case looks like as soon as the cupcakes go out.

We made some extras today since we ran out so early yesterday. 85 cupcakes today!
We added a "Baker's Choice" that wasn't on the menu -
Revenge of the Nerds Cupcake
(Nerds candy in the cake and sprinkled on top).

Mocha sold out early today - must be a lot of coffee lovers in Greenbrier - but there were still about two dozen left for the dinner crowd to enjoy when I left this afternoon.

Vanilla, Revenge of the Nerds & Chocolate

Lemon Supreme and Mocha

Butter Pecan and Lemon Supreme
