Snow Day Sunday

Once again we're taking a snow day.

Hope to be back soon, but right now we're
gonna enjoy the snow with our family.

What to do on a snow day......

practice, practice, practice!
I spent all day working on my cake
decorating skills. Tried a few new
things and I'm pretty pleased with
how it turned out.

Snow Day Saturday

Well, once again we have a Snow Day Saturday.
We will not be baking cupcakes today,
we're going to enjoy the snow with our kids!
Get out there and have some fun!

Special Book Cake

This is a very special cake for a dear, dear lady.
For those of you who went to Greenbrier Elementary,
you may remember Mrs. Clark or The Purple Lady.

She was our librarian for many years, and she
instilled a love of reading and storytelling in
lots of children.

This cake was for her birthday and we wanted
to do a "book" in honor of her storytelling.

Purple is her favorite color and she loves bling,
so we tried to combine all those things, and
I think we succeeded.

This is a chocolate cake that was carved to look
like a book. Vanilla buttercream frosting with
purple fondant accents.

Snow Day Cupcakes

We braved the weather this morning and
went a baked a few cupcakes for today.
There are several available, so if you
need a cupcake fix, they're in the case now!

Sweet 16

It's our first Sweet 16 cake!

It's a yellow cake with vanilla buttercream frosting.
We covered this cake with all different kinds of
cutout fondant flowers.

More than meets the eye...

Transformers!

Here's the birthday cake I promised from my
post earlier today.

The birthday boy loves Bumblebee from the
Transformers. After looking around for some
inspiration pics, this is the design we decided to
go with. We thought he would love it!

It's a 1/2 sheet cake. Yellow cake with vanilla
buttercream frosting. Transformer emblem was
cut from fondant.

We heard the birthday boy loved his cake!

Paint Splatter Cake

Check out this fun, paint splattered birthday cake
we did this morning!

It is a 1/4 sheet cake (yellow cake) with
vanilla buttercream frosting. The splatters
and paint brush are made from fondant.

The "paint pots" are chocolate cupcakes
with vanilla buttercream frosting.

We sure had fun making this one!

Lemon Icebox Pie is a new flavor for us.

18th Birthday Cake

18th Birthday Cake

Here is another cake we did for a birthday for today,
for twins celebrating their 18th birthday.

One cake is vanilla, one cake is chocolate and
both are frosted in vanilla buttercream.
The one is covered in fondant dots and the eight
is covered in fondant stripes.

Pink Princess Cake

Here's a cake we did for a party today -
Pink Princess Cake

It is a chocolate 1/4 sheet cake with pink tinted
buttercream frosting. It is decorated with edible
sugar pearls and a tiara and roses made from gumpaste.

Bright 3 Tier Birthday Cake

Here's a fun, bright birthday cake we did today
for a young man having his birthday party
at Monkey Joe's.

The bottom tier is an 8" chocolate
cake with vanilla buttercream.
The middle tier is a 6" strawberry
cake with vanilla buttercream.
And the top tier is a 4" vanilla
cake with vanilla buttercream.

Decorations are buttercream, fondant
and gumpaste.

Snow Day Fun

Since we were home with the massive snow storm,
I decided to practice working with fondant and
created a "dummy" cake.

A dummy cake is made using styrofoam for the
"cake" part and decorated as you normally would.
Lots of bakeries use these for displays and samples
of their work.



This is a display cake I worked on.
The bottom tier is 8", the top tier is
6" and both are covered in fondant.
Fondant/Gumpaste bows and flowers.
This was lots of fun and gave
me a chance to practice my flowers.

Weather

Due to the weather, we will not be back to
the cupcake counter until Tuesday.
